In stock

Southeast Asia, Thailand, Rattanakosin period, ca. 19th to early 20th century CE. A remarkable group of three statues featuring a central Buddha figure shaded by an umbrella, and accompanied by two monks. The Buddha stands atop a large, tiered octagonal pedestal – cast separately and attached via a large pin. He is adorned in raised rosette-patterned robes, with one hand raised in the abhaya mudra, dispelling fear. The parasol is removable, consisting of a iron pole supporting three wooden discs with brass openwork panels inlaid with mirrored glass shards, and topped with a wooden finial. The two monks, dressed in similarly lavish kasaya robes, stand on their own pedestals with hands clasped in the anjali mudra, a sign of prayer and reverence. Unlike the Buddha, they lack an ushnisha protuberance, signifying their unenlightened status. All three figures are detailed with glass-enamel eyes, adding depth to their serene countenances. Size of buddha + parasol: 15″ W x 67″ H (38.1 cm x 170.2 cm); monks: 10″ W x 35.5″ H (25.4 cm x 90.2 cm); gold quality: 4% to 5.7%

Please note that this item is heavy/oversized. Please inquire about shipping prior to bidding.

Condition: Lovely antique conditions. Fading and losses to gilt to all three. Abrasions and minor surface chips and nicks. It is unknown if the parasol umbrella is original, and it might be a later replacement. Missing glass inlays on the parasol.
