Carved hardwood speaker’s or shaman’s staff, of totemic design having a tall well carved bird at the top with a long beak, head crest and carved feather details. Possibly a woodpecker, he sits on top of a shamanic human or deity head, having prominent flared nostrils, and heavy brow line, wearing disc ear ornaments. Overall excellent deep brown surface patina. Exhibits some normal high point wear from use, and a shallow very minor flake on the handle ring, overall intact cond. A good early example. Custom base.
