A group of five stoneware dishes recovered from a maritime shipwreck, each covered in a pale gray-green glaze decorated with stenciled cobalt chrysanthemum and geometric motifs, with unglazed biscuit centers typical of kiln-stacked mass production. Likely from the Fujian or Guangdong kilns and destined for Southeast Asian trade markets, these are modest everyday wares.
Provenance: private Lanier collection, West Covina, California, USA via descent from father, acquired in the 1970’s.
Condition: Fair. Chips to rims and small gouges to surfaces. Striations and stable fissures. Nicks and pitting and firing imperfections. Fading and running to glazed motifs.
