17th C. Russian Bronze Cross

$150.00
Eastern Europe, Russia, ca. 17th century CE. A cast-bronze cross with an integral suspension loop, four pellet-form light rays extending from each exterior corner, and an interior Orthodox cross. While faded, there are three primary monograms: uPbC (King of Glory) above the interior cross; IC XC (Jesus Christ) on either lateral terminal; and MP (the place of the skull has become paradise) underneath the image of Adam's skull in the cave. The worn verso displays a floral motif representative of the wounds Christ suffered during the Crucifixion. The entire surface is coated in a lustrous dark-brown patina with some small areas of light-brown patina as well. Size: 1.25" W x 2" H (3.2 cm x 5.1 cm).

Condition: Age-commensurate surface wear, slight bending to overall form, fading to lettering and details, with nice dark brown patina throughout. Integral suspension loop as shown.

Provenance: private Orange County, California, USA collection
