16th C. Russian Bronze Cross - Expanded Form

Eastern Europe, Russia, ca. 16th century CE. A wonderful cast-bronze cross with an expansion at the top and an expanded bottom end. The obverse side has an interior Golgotha cross with a curved chaplet in the center. The monogram IC XC (Jesus Christ) is on each respective lateral arm, and the monogram uPbC (King of Glory) is below the pierced suspension loop. While faded, the image of Adam's skull in the cave rests at the bottom of the interior cross, and underneath is the monogram MP (the place of the skull has become paradise). The reverse is unadorned, and the entire cross has a light layer of green patina. Size: 0.8" W x 1.625" H (2 cm x 4.1 cm).

Condition: Age-commensurate surface wear, fading to details, and light green-hued patina throughout. Integral suspension loop as shown.
