Roman Bronze Ring w/ Incised Canine

Roman, Imperial Period, ca. 1st to 3rd century CE. A cast-bronze ring with a thin band, gradually-expanding shoulders, and a flat, ovoid face. The face is incised with a playful of a dog with an upright tail, its front paw raised above a small circular object, perhaps a ball. Lustrous layers of bright green and dark green patina envelop the ring, though the image of the canine companion is still clearly visible. Amethyst fragment for photography purposes only. Size: 0.6" W x 0.625" H (1.5 cm x 1.6 cm); US ring size 2.75.

Condition: Wearable as shown. Slight bending to band and overall form, and very light fading to incised details, otherwise intact and very good.

Provenance: private East Coast, USA collection
