Bactrian 14K Gold Earrings (pr) - .8 g

$695.00
Central Asia, modern day Afghanistan, Uzbekistan, and Tajikistan, Bactria (Bactria Margiana Archaeological Complex/BMAC), ca. 2nd to 1st millennium BCE. A lovely set of ancient earrings of an ovoid form made from 14K gold. Each earring has a slender, arching pin and a convex face. The faces of each accessory are surrounded by incised curvilinear bands and bear an abstract zoomorphic image, perhaps that of a prancing ibex. A lovely pair of 14K gold earrings from ancient Central Asia! Size of largest: 0.425" W x 0.6" H (1.1 cm x 1.5 cm); total weight: .8 grams.

Condition: Not wearable in current condition, but a reputable jeweler could create a setting to make them wearable. One earring has small losses to peripheries. Both earrings have surface wear commensurate with age, fading to incised imagery, slight bending to overall form, and some light tarnishing. Light earthen deposits within verso.

Provenance: private New York, USA collection; ex-private collection from the Rhineland, acquired 1970s to 1980s
