16th C. Russian Silver Coin Hoard - 107 coins - 45.3 g.

Eastern Europe, Russia, ca. 16th to 17th century CE. A collection of one-hundred-and-seven coins, known as "wire money," made from silver wire. This style of coinage was created in certain Russian fiefdoms when the Golden Horde's influence began to slip in the middle of the 14th century. The largely-unregulated nature of these coins' production means that there are thousands of different varieties. A nice selection! Size: 0.6" W (1.5 cm); weight: 45.3 grams.

Condition: All coins have wear and light patina. VF to F.

Provenance: private Orange County, California, USA collection
