Greek Tanagran / Boeotian Pottery Horse

Greece, Tanagra, Boeotia, Geometric period, ca. 900 to 700 BCE. One of my favorites! A pottery figure in a style instantly recognizable as Greek, created from simple lines to give an abstract but immediately clear representation of a horse. He stands proudly, legs straight and out, tail up, with a highly stylized mane and forelock that instantly calls to mind the Trojan Horse. Size: 5.25" W x 4.5" H (13.3 cm x 11.4 cm)

Condition: One leg is repaired. Otherwise in nice condition with fine remaining pigment.

Provenance: private East Coast, USA collection
