20th C. American Handpainted Theater Set - Devil Heads

United States, ca. mid 20th century CE. A painting of a set for a theatrical production or a film depicting an eerie domed room or vestibule with an oculus at the apex of the dome. Emerging from the walls are five gruesome devil heads with bulging eyes, open mouths bearing fangs, and pointy horns, four green columns between them, and in the back, an open portal with four skulls above and creepy, sinuous creatures flanking either side. Below are handwritten notes perhaps pertaining to the script. While we have not been able to identify for which horror movie or play this set design was intended, the ambviance it projects is perfectly hair-raising and sinister! Size: 15.25" W x 10.5" H (38.7 cm x 26.7 cm)

Condition: Paper has minor crease marks but is otherwise excellent.

Provenance: ex-Tom & Christine Accatino collection
