Europe, France, first half of the 20th century black and white chromogenic print from ca. 1910 photograph. Framed and matted under glass, a limited edition, large scale, black-and-white chromogenic print entitled, “Accident de la ‘Fregate’ en 1910 a Issy-les Moulineaux”; this title is printed on the lower left margin; “Les editions de l’Iconophile” is printed on the lower central margin; and “Photo musee de l’air – Reference A-6” on the lower right. The dramatic scene features an early SACAA La Fregate Monoplane aircraft called “La Fregate” (that name painted on its body) that had taken a nosedive on the shoreline of Issy-les-Moulineau, France in 1910, with the ground crew coming to the aviator Robert de Lessops’ rescue. The plane was designed by the Societie Anonyme de Construction d’Appareils Aeriens. A wonderful piece for anyone interested in the history of aeronautics! Condition: Image and mat in overall excellent condition. Frame and glass intact, minor scuffs to the frame, but otherwise excellent.
