10th C. Islamic Glass Jar – Gorgeous Green Color- Lot 81, Auction 12/25/2018

Sold

Ancient Near East, Holy Land, Islamic, ca. 10th to 12th century CE. A free-blown, translucent glass jar of a beautiful emerald-green color. The globular body sits upon a trio of nubbin feet with a smooth pontil scar in-between, and bears eight pinched tabs that act as informal handles. A slender neck traces upwards to a flared spout and a wide funnel mouth. Scattered areas of silvery iridescence highlight the verdant hue of the vessel. A fantastic example from the ancient Holy Land! Size: 2.75″ W x 3″ H (7 cm x 7.6 cm).

Condition: Surface wear and minor abrasions commensurate with age, one stable pressure fissure within body, light roughness to feet and some pinched tabs, and some light roughness across body, otherwise intact and very good. Nice earthen deposits and scattered silvery iridescence throughout.
