Ancient Near East, Achaemenid Persian Empire, ca. 550 to 330 BCE. A cast bronze figure of a seated antelope or ibex, shown with his head reaching forward, and his legs folded underneath his body. His huge horns curve back from the upper sides of his head, dominating his face. The antelope, as a horned animal, is often linked to plant, animal, and human fertility. It was also linked to the iconography of the hunt, which was a popular activity for Achaemenid royals and nobility. Size: 3.35″ W x 2.1″ H (8.5 cm x 5.3 cm)
Condition: Smooth dark brown and pale green patina on surface. Nice preservation of form, with good details remaining on the face.
