Roman Iron Horse Bit

Roman, Imperial Period, ca. 1st to 3rd century CE. A functional, well-preserved iron horse bit, composed of two interlinked bars, each with a round loop of iron through their terminals. Horses were treasured animals in ancient Rome, with ownership of them a sign of status. Size: 2.95" W x 12.05" H (7.5 cm x 30.6 cm)

Condition: Nice preservation of form, especially for iron, with lightly encrusted, oxidized patina.
