Roman Gold and Carnelian Intaglio Ring with Equestrian

Roman, Imperial Period, ca. 1st to 3rd century CE. A stunning gold ring comprised of 89% gold (equivalent to 20K+) and set with a large oval carnelian intaglio of warm orange hues depicting a horse and rider, the horse striding toward the left and the rider wielding a long spear and donning a cloak that billows behind him as he rides. Size: intaglio measures .625" L x .5" W (1.6 cm x 1.3 cm); opening measures .75" L x .875" W (1.9 cm x 2.2 cm). US ring size 6.75-7. Total weight: 11.5 grams.

Condition: Slight denting to the bezel surrounding the intaglio and gold sheet beneath the intaglio. Normal surface wear to the shank commensurate with age. Intaglio has slight wear, but imagery is quite vivid.
