Roman 22k+ Gold, Garnet, Glass Earrings - 10.5 g

Roman, Imperial Period, ca. 1st to 3rd centuries CE. A stunning pair of Roman 22k karat gold earrings. The Roman gold sheet design is adorned by roped borders and avian motifs; each is set with three cabochon garnets and five danglers with blue glass beads. Modern earring findings were added to the original gold wire to make a lovely, wearable pair. Size: 2.5" L x 1.125" W (6.4 cm x 2.9 cm); total weight: 10.5 grams.

Condition: Earring bodies, garnets, and blue glass danglers are ancient, with modern gold findings to make a wearable pair. Slight denting to gold forms, but in general they are in beautiful condition. Glass has light iridescence on surface.

Provenance: private East Coast, USA collection; ex-Frances Artuner collection, Belgium, acquired in the 1960s then gifted to her daughter Susan Artuner in the United States (New Jersey) in 1995
