Delicate Roman Glass Vessel w/ Blue Dots

$895.00
Roman, Imperial Period, ca. 1st to 3rd century CE. A delightful green glass cup in near-perfect condition, still beautifully translucent. The free blown cup has a delicate, egg-shaped body and a thin, flaring rim with a slightly thickened, rounded lip. Three dots of applied blue glass on the exterior walls provide tasteful and colorful decoration on its otherwise simple form. Size: 2.4" W x 2.7" H (6.1 cm x 6.9 cm)

Condition: Intact, with very light scratching on the surface and faint encrustation. The pontil scar is worn away. A pontil scar or mark indicates that the vessel was free-blown. The absence of such a mark suggests that it was either intentionally smoothed away or wore away over time.

Provenance: private East Coast, USA collection
