Northern Europe, Viking or Norse culture, ca. 9th to 12th century CE. A beautiful necklace boasting a cast-bronze cross of a dark-green hue with inlaid creamy yellow enamel as the central pendant. The five circular areas are representative of the five wounds Christ suffered during the crucifixion. The necklace also has fifty-eight Viking glass beads, some faceted and some rounded, in hues of salmon, cobalt, emerald, jet, topaz, pearl, and cream. A modern gold-filled loop and lobster clasp cap the ends of each strand and enable this accessory to be worn for any occasion! Size (necklace): 18.25" L (46.4 cm); size (cross pendant): 1.2" W x 1.55" H (3 cm x 3.9 cm).

Condition: Strung in modern times and wearable as shown. Bronze cross and glass beads are ancient and stringing as well as gold-filled hardware are modern. Cross and beads have minor nicks to peripheries, minor abrasions, and some fading to coloration, cross has small losses to inlaid enamel, otherwise intact and very good. Nice dark-green patina across cross, and some beads have great iridescence.
