Medium-Sized European Bronze Mortar & Pestal - 18th C.

Western Europe, ca. 18th century CE. A bronze mortar and pestle - the mortar with twin squared handles, a tall cylindrical body with a dramatically flared rim, fine-line striations incised on the walls, and incised concentric circles on the underside of the base - the pestle with flared knobbed ends, a protruding central area, and fine line incised striations adorning its length. Mortar and pestles were standard tools of the medical trade during this time period. This example is one of ample size and elegant design. Size: 5.25" W handlespan x 4.875" H (13.3 cm x 12.4 cm)

Condition: Expected surface wear and tarnish commensurate with use and age. Nice areas of green patina.
