Etruscan Bronze Handle - Nude Female Form

Classical World, northern Italy, Etruria, ca. 5th century BCE. A highly-stylized, cast-bronze handle in the form of a nude female figure. Her elongated body arches backwards to form the grip of the handle, with her head tilted back and both legs held tightly together. Her breasts extend in front of her contorted torso, and one arm extends outwards as if she is maintaining her balance. Her delicate face is comprised of almond-shaped eyes, a petite nose, full cheeks and chin, and ovoid ears, all beneath a simple cap. Areas of separation from the original vessel are visible atop her head and behind the feet. The entire handle is enveloped in a smooth sage-green patina with scattered areas of russet-hued patina as well. A fabulous example! Custom museum-quality display stand included. Size: 4.375" L x 2.25" H (11.1 cm x 5.7 cm); 5.375" H (13.7 cm) on included custom stand.

Condition: Handle was once part of a larger bronze vessel. Loss to one arm. Age-commensurate surface wear and abrasions, fading to some facial details, roughness and discoloration around areas separated from original vessel, with some discoloration, otherwise excellent. Light earthen deposits and nice green patina throughout.
