D. Shapiro, Untitled Print, Birnham Wood Series, 1979

David Shapiro (American, 1944-2014), untitled, silkscreen/etching from Birnham Wood series, ca. 1979 CE. A striking work on handmade paper from David Shapiro's Birnham Wood series. The vibrant non-objective work is meant to be hung as a diamond-shaped composition divided into an upper red and lower indigo blue triangular section - the upper red half with a variety of geometric and linear motifs in darker red, black, and grey hues - the lower with a bold red semi-circle through it and black geometric/linear motifs adorning the blue areas. A wonderful example from this accomplished artist whose abstract, mixed media works are in such respected museum collections as the Museum of Modern Art, the Guggenheim Museum, and the Cleveland Museum of Art. Size: 10.25" L x 9.125" W (26 cm x 23.2 cm); 16.5" L x 15.125" W (41.9 cm x 38.4 cm) with floating mat and frame Size: 13" L x 9.75" W (33 cm x 24.8 cm); 28.5" L x 28.5" W (72.4 cm x 72.4 cm) framed
