20th C. Plains Indian Beaded Hide Child Moccasins (pr)

Native American, North America, Plains Indians, ca. first half of the 20th century CE. An attractive pair of deer hide moccasins made for a small child. Each moccasin is decorated with a beaded five-pointed star with red interiors, blue stripes, and outlined in white. The glass beads of translucent cherry red, cobalt blue, and opaque white hues are lane-stitched with sinew. Both moccasins have rawhide soles, a folded tongue, and thin laces. A lovely pair indeed! Size of each: 5.875" L x 2.5" W x 2" H (14.9 cm x 6.4 cm x 5.1 cm).

Condition: Surface wear commensurate with age, light desiccation and wear to leather, with minor clouding to some beads, otherwise intact and very good. The laces of one moccasin display more wear than those of the other. Light earthen deposits.

Provenance: private S. S. collection, Los Angeles, California, USA
