Western Asiatic Gold & Garnet Dangling Earrings -10.2 g

Ancient Near East / Western Asia, probably Assyrian, ca. 8th to 7th century BCE. A beautiful pair of long, dangling earrings. Each has a gold (75% or the equivalent of 18K) crescent form with braided gold borders and inlaid stones forming flowers, hearts, and teardrop shapes. A few of the stones remain, including two wine red garnets; also some grey and green stones. A gold loop at the top of each has a modern 22K gold hook so that they are wearable. Five dangling chains, each with a rounded, cap-like, flat pendant at the end, hang from each. Size of one from top to bottom: 1.25" W (3.2 cm); gold quality: 75% or the equivalent of 18K; total weight of both together: 10.2 grams.

Condition: Modern 22K gold hooks have been attached to make them wearable, but the rest is ancient. Slight bending to form. Only a few of the inlaid stones remain, as shown.
