Sumerian Faience & Glass Beaded Necklace

Ancient Near East, Sumer, ca. 3rd to 2nd millennium BCE. A beautiful necklace composed of a variety of ancient faience and glass beads. The types of beads include 23 blue or blue-grey globular beads with incised decorations, 36 seed beads in blue or bright yellow hues, 12 blue tube beads, and 4 circular blue spacer beads with indented tops and bottoms. A pair of ovoid beads made from semi-translucent, deep cobalt-blue glass flank the suspension tab of the large, circular, light-blue faience pendant, and a sterling silver loop and lobster clasp combination caps the terminals. An amazing, stylish, and wearable necklace for any occasion! Size (necklace): 17.875" L (45.4 cm); size (pendant): 1.1" W x 1.25" H (2.8 cm x 3.2 cm); quality of sterling silver: 92.5% or higher.

Condition: Strung in modern times and wearable as shown. Faience and glass beads are ancient and stringing as well as sterling silver components are modern. Small nicks to some faience beads, with light chips to glass beads, one stable fissure to one glass bead, and some fading to coloration, otherwise intact and very good. Light earthen deposits throughout.
