Mesopotamian Stone Bead Stamp - Ibex

Ancient Near East, Mesopotamia, ca. 2nd millennium BCE. A grey-green stone stamp bead with its flat face incised with the form of a standing ibex. The upper part of the stamp - which is pierced horizontally for suspension - is carved into the form of a zoomorphic head - perhaps a boar or similar animal. Comes with modern clay stamp impression in order to showcase how the stamp's incised imagery would have appeared in ancient times. Size: 0.95" W x 0.45" H (2.4 cm x 1.1 cm); 1.9" H (4.8 cm) on included custom stand.

Condition: Light wear on surface commensurate with age. Motifs are clear.

Provenance: private southern California, USA collection, acquired in the 1970s to mid-1980s
