Lot of 3 Luristan Silver Equestrian Appliques, 150 g

Near East/Western Iran, Luristan, ca. 1200 to 1000 BCE. A beautiful trio of high grade silver (99% silver to be precise) identical equestrian medallions. Each is flat with a round body and a small portion that extends from its round upper body to form semi-triangular protrusion. Each is hammered with a row of small spiked dots and six pointed star or sun pattern in the center. Two small repousse birds are on the triangular portions. Each has a rolled loop at the top for attachment. Imagine how handsome a horse would have looked with these dangling and flashing from his saddle - and how wealthy and powerful his rider would have appeared! Condition: One is intact. One is missing a corner and the other has a crack on its corner. All three have very thick, almost glaze-like patinas.

Provenance: ex-collection of Joel Malter, Los Angeles, California, USA, acquired from Jay Gluckman
