Gandharan Gray Schist Standing Bearded Prince

Pakistan and Afghanistan, Gandharan Empire, ca. 1st century CE. This is a unique, naturalistic carving of a standing male prince. Wearing long flowing robes, long beard, hair tied in a top-knot. The face is detailed and includes expressive eyes, and a dapper mustache and beard over a full-lipped mouth. Gandharan sculpture is a blend of Greco-Roman realism and flowing design and Buddhist symbolism. A wonderful example! Size: 5.25" W x 14.5" H (13.3 cm x 36.8 cm); 15.75" H (40 cm) on included custom stand.

Condition: Missing lower section including feet and once a section of a larger sculpture, still a very attractive example!
