Ancient Nishapur Polychrome Spouted Vessel

Near East / Western Asia, Persia (Iran), Nishapur area, ca. 9th century or slightly later CE. An early example of Nishapur's innovative pottery, a pitcher with red and black fine line painted motifs that form abstract geometric designs. The body is globular, with a thick handle attached to the tall, flared neck. The mouth opens outward with a slightly rolled rim. A tiny spout projects from the opposite side of the body from the handle. Size: 6" W x 7.35" H (15.2 cm x 18.7 cm)

Condition: Intact, with some wear to the pigment commensurate with age. Light encrustation on surface.
