Amlash Terracotta Steatopygous Figure w/ TL Test

Ancient Near East, northwestern Iran, Amlash, ca. early 1st millennium BCE. A standing steatopygous idol presenting a form that emphasizes her fertility with broad hips and buttocks, perky breasts held aloft by bent arms, and a long tubular neck. Her limbs are minimized so as not to detract from and thereby further her locii of fertility; note the dramatically tapering legs and plateaued hips. In addition, her lengthy neck exhibits a globular head, one pierced ear for earrings (now missing), and a high hair ornament, all characteristic of steatopygous idols. This piece has been tested using thermoluminescence (TL) and has been found to be ancient and of the period stated. A full report will accompany purchase.

Condition: Figure repaired from multiple large pieces with some small chips, earthen stabilization material, and light adhesive residue along break lines. Surface wear commensurate with age, losses to bottom of one foot and parts of both ears, and light roughness across most surfaces. Light earthen deposits throughout.
