Fine Chinese Ming Dynasty Bronze Horse w/ Rider

East Asia, China, Ming Dynasty, ca. 1368 to 1644 CE. A fierce, finely detailed cast bronze horse and mounted rider on an integral raised platform base, open in the center. The rider is a nobleman wearing an elaborately detailed costume with a long flowing beard and expressive facial features. His armor is scaled and envelops his entire upper body, upper arms, and thighs; he also wears a large helmet with pointed top. The horse, too, wears scale underneath his saddle, as well as a blanket and other decorative items. Size: 5.5" W x 8" H (14 cm x 20.3 cm); 8.45" H (21.5 cm) on included custom stand.

Condition: One arm is lost. Nice deep green patina with deposits on surface and nice preservation of details.

Provenance: private New York, New York, USA collection; ex-estate of Barbara Goldsmith, New York, New York, USA, acquired in the 1960s to 1980
