Chinese Qing Gilt Copper Cloissone Candlesticks (pr)

East Asia, China, Qing to Republic, ca. early 20th century CE. A magnificent pair of matching candlesticks comprised of gilded copper and decorated throughout their length in masterfully executed cloissone. Each one presents a mythical dragon in hues of periwinkle blue, scarlet, spring green, pink, white, and yellow. The background is black with wispy golden smoke clouds. Surrounding the base is a beautiful border of blue and green running wave motifs. The capitals are also decorated with sinuous cranberry red motifs, and just below the sconces are intricate stylized floral borders in aqua blue and cranberry red - all against that rich black ground with miniature golden smoke cloud motifs. The undersides of the bases are a brilliant cobalt blue. Size: each measures 9.75" H (24.8 cm); candlestick receptacle hole measures .875" in diameter (2.2 cm)

Condition: Minor wear commensurate with use and age. Otherwise, both are in excellent condition.
