18th C Tibetan Gilded Copper Repousse Plaque - Buddha

Tibet, ca. early 18th C. Rare and quite superb gilded copper repousse plaque of a seated Buddha. He is shown in lotus pose with legs crossed right hand in the Vitarka Mudra - a gesture of discussion and transmission of Buddhist teaching - an orb in his left hand. A plaque such as this would have adorned a temple or shrine and are rare to find with such extensive gilding. A gorgeous example! Size: 7.25" W x 10.5" H (18.4 cm x 26.7 cm)

Condition: Small tears and losses, else generally quite fine with heavy gold layer, still quite exceptional.

Provenance: private Florida USA collection of a distinguished doctor who traveled the world in the 1950's to 1980
