Egyptian Predynastic Black Schist Acorn Jar

Ancient Egypt, Predynastic Period, Naqada II, ca. 3500 to 3200 BCE. An elegant and finely-carved jar made from black schist. The vessel boasts an acorn-shaped body with a corseted neck, a flared rim, and a drilled-out interior cavity, all upon a miniscule circular base. The exterior of the vessel is incredibly smooth to the touch, especially for its age. Size: 2.625" W x 3.125" H (6.7 cm x 7.9 cm).

Condition: Losses to areas of rim with light adhesive residue from previous repairs. Minor abrasions and nicks to rim, body, and base. Light earthen deposits throughout. Old inventory label beneath base.
