Rare 20th C. Hawaiian Milo Wood Lidded Vessel

North America, Hawaiian Islands, ca. late 20th to early 21st century CE. A beautiful bowl with an accompanying lid, hand-carved from rare milo wood. The bowl has a petite ringed base, rolling walls, a deep interior tondo, and a lipped rim. The discoid lid has a smooth topside and a small circular handle, allowing the contents to be safely contained. The lustrous sheen is brought forth through a meticulous polishing process, and the sumptuous caramel, espresso, and toffee hues give the vessel a regal presentation. A fabulous example from the Hawaiian Islands! Size: 6.5" W x 4.5" H (16.5 cm x 11.4 cm); 5.75" H (14.6 cm) with accompanying lid.

Condition: Minor surface abrasions, otherwise intact and very good. The base has "Milo, Hawaii, 415" etched into the base along with an old inventory sticker. Lid has an old inventory sticker on inside.

Provenance: private Newport Beach, California, USA collection
