20th C. Papua New Guinea Carved Abelam Coconut Cup

Oceania, Papua New Guinea, East Sepik, Abelam, ca. 1940s CE. A pretty cup made from a carved coconut shell, with a face inside of a four-pointed star in low relief on its exterior. A hook-like handle rises from one side of the cup. Size: 5" W x 5" H (12.7 cm x 12.7 cm); 7.6" H (19.3 cm) on included custom stand.

Condition: Small crack on one side. Signs of use on interior. Nice dark patina on exterior.
