Choice Costa Rican Jade Standing Figure

Pre-Columbian, Costa Rica, Atlantic Watershed region, ca. 1 to 500 CE. A finely carved standing jade figure of lovely pale seafoam green hues, presenting a striking abstract form with a slender, elongated torso, incised spine, angular broad shoulders that lead to muscular arms falling parallel to the torso, though separated from it so that every rippling muscle can be appreciated, large hands placed upon his hips, defined genitalia and buttocks, and looped legs. His head presents stylized, almost mask-like features and a checkerboard patterned coiffure visible on the verso, and his neck is laterally perforated for suspension. Custom stand.
