Some with fish and several panels containing two vertical rows of birds. Each panel bordered with a multi-color step decoration. Professionally sewn to a brown linen backing on a wooden stretcher. 3 of 4 selvedges are intact, an indication this was a large section of an even larger shawl or tunic. A large and impressive example. Size: 97″ L x 41″ W (246.4 cm x 104.1 cm) Size: 41″ W x 1″ H x 97″ D (104.1 cm W x 2.5 cm H x 246.4 cm D).

The Chuquibamba culture flourished in the Andean highlands of southern Peru between roughly the 11th and 15th centuries CE, in the transitional region between the coastal Arequipa valleys and the altiplano. Renowned for its masterful weaving, Chuquibamba artisans produced some of the most intricate and colorful pre-Columbian textiles, distinguished by finely spun camelid fibers, complex geometric patterning, and bold, contrasting dyes derived from native plants and cochineal.
