Chinese Stone Statue of Bodhisattva Guanyin (Auction 2026-06-05, Lot 215)

$321.25

East Asia, China, ca. mid to late 20th century CE. A beautifully carved stone statue of the Bodhisattva Guanyin, seated on a pedestal with her robes cascading gracefully over her legs. Her hands are held palm up in her lap, forming a meditative gesture, while her robe is delicately draped over her head. The lower edge of the pedestal is inscribed with Chinese characters. Size: 9.5″ L x 16.5″ H (24.1 cm x 41.9 cm)

Provenance: private Los Angeles, California, USA collection, acquired from 1990 to 2005

Condition: Good. Pigment layer is actively flaking when handled. The pigments are probably not original to the carving and may have been added to protect the surface. Inscription along the base is too weathered to easily translate. Some abrasions and gouges to stone base, but overall good condition.
