North Africa, early Cretaceous (Lower Albian to Lower Cenomanian), ca. 112 to 97 million years ago. A fossilized vertebra bone from the dinosaur Spinosaurus. This substantial bone represents one of the massive spinal elements that supported the elongated body of this remarkable theropod. . Spinosaurus was primarily fish-eating and adapted for life in and around rivers and coastal waterways, where it pursued large aquatic prey and likely took advantage of other animals when the opportunity arose. Among the largest known predatory dinosaurs, it is estimated to have reached lengths of 15 to 16 meters (49 to 52 feet), with a skull measuring up to 1.68 meters (5.5 feet) long. The vertebra is mounted on a custom metal stand for display. Size: 3.5″ L x 2.25″ W x 5.8″ H (8.9 cm x 5.7 cm x 14.7 cm); 9.75″ H (24.8 cm) on included custom stand.
Condition: Chips and old losses as shown. Stable fissures and striations. Small area of infill on the pedicle and body.
