$325.00

In stock

Southeast Asia, Vietnam, Anamese (Annamese), ca. 16th century CE. A stoneware lime pot with a rounded, nearly spherical body set on a low ring base and capped by a thick, vine-like handle. The vessel is covered in a creamy beige glaze, while the handle carries mottled forest-green to soft celadon tones, modeled with spiraling tendrils and flower buds that trail onto the shoulder. Lime pots such as this were made to store powdered lime for betel chewing with areca nut and leaf, and the circular side opening allows easy access with a small spoon or ladle. Size: 3.75″ W x 5″ H (9.5 cm x 12.7 cm)

Condition: Expected nicks, chips, and abrasions, as shown. Discoloration and stains. Nice remaining pigments craquelure to areas.

Provenance: private Dallas, Texas, USA collection; ex-Artemis Gallery; ex-Ashland University Museum, Ashland, Ohio, USA, donated to Ashland University between July 1994 to December 1998
