In stock

Western Europe, France, ca. 18th to early 19th century CE. An intimidating folding knife featuring a single-edged iron blade and a handle with bone or antler panels. Folding knives of this type were produced in the Chatellerault region, a noted center of French blade-making, and reflect the practical cutlery traditions of the period, when durable folding knives were widely carried for everyday tasks, personal use, and perhaps protection. Size extended: 17.25″ L x 1″ W (43.8 cm x 2.5 cm); blade only: 8″ L x 1″ W (20.3 cm x 2.5 cm)

Condition: Heavy patina and oxidation throughout to the iron, with pitting to blade. Blade edge has nicks and chips. Old chips and small losses to the bone panels and stable fissures. Stable condition and it still opens and shuts easily.

Provenance: private southwestern Pennsylvania, USA collection, acquired prior to 2000
