In stock

United States, WWI era, ca. early 20th century CE. A tall brass 50-caliber shell casing transformed into a decorative piece of trench art. The cylindrical body has been etched and chased with roses and leaves in low relief, rising along the surface against a textured ground. A scalloped band encircles the upper section below the neck, adding a decorative transition between the smooth rim and the ornamented body. The base retains its original military markings, including “T. B. & C. Co.” along with “50 CAL,” an anchor emblem, and additional manufacturing and inspection marks identifying the shell’s wartime production. Size: 4.35″ W x 23″ H (11 cm x 58.4 cm)

Condition: Expected age patina with areas of darkening and green oxidation. Abrasions and scratches.

Provenance: ex-private collection, Fairhaven, Massachusetts, USA, collected from 2010 to 2015
