Western Europe, Netherlands, ca. 1912 CE. A porcelain tile plaque with molded low-relief scrollwork edges framing a blue-and-white river landscape centered on a windmill, cottages, and boats, painted in soft tonal washes. The painting is after Fredericus Jacobus van Rossum du Chattel (1856-1917). his signature on the lower edge. The verso bears the factory jar/apothecary-bottle emblem, stylized “JT” for Joost Thooft, “Delft,” a stamped “WZ”, and below a possible painter’s initials “AG,” pattern number 951, a stylized initial “F,” and date code “AH” for the 1912 production year. Brass ring fittings and a hemp cord have been added for suspension. Size: 22″ L x 15.5″ W (55.9 cm x 39.4 cm)
Condition: Some minor scuffs and stains to surface, otherwise intact.
Provenance: private Sheffield, Massachusetts, USA collection, by inheritance, collected 1970’s
