Unusually Large Nayarit Chinesca Pottery Female

Pre-Columbian, West Mexico, Nayarit, Chinesco style, ca. 300 BCE to 300 CE. Perhaps the most desirable of all Nayarit pottery styles. An unusually large Chinesca pottery female standing with legs slightly apart, nude save large nose ring, typical triangular-shaped head, coffee bean eyes and arms wrapped under her small awkwardly placed breasts. Covered in thick deep red slip, now spotted with manganese blooms. A very nice example in a very nice size! Size: 15" H (38.1 cm)

Condition: Intact save small chip to right foot

Provenance: Ex-private Scollard collection, acquired before 1990
