20th C. Santa Clara Signed Blackware Figural Jar- Lot 263, Auction 3/26/2018

North America, Native American, Santa Clara Pueblo, New Mexico, dated 2005 CE. A striking blackware avian-shaped vessel with a stable base complete with the artist’s signature, bulbous body with a wide mouth, small protruding beak, and twin drilled eyes. The burnished body has a glossy black glaze, and the interior cavity has a coarse, unglazed surface. Size: 5″ H (12.7 cm).

Condition: Overall excellent. An old collection sticker on the underside reads “7012 60-” and the signature reads “Freddy Brave Eagle Santa Clara Pueblo New Mexico ID 2005.”
