Beautiful Roman Glass Aryballos- Lot 84, Auction 4/26/2018

Roman Empire, Imperial Period, ca. 2nd to 4th century CE. This beautiful mold-formed pale green translucent glass vessel has a dimpled base with a smooth pontil, a thick and rotund spherical body, wide shoulders tapering to a squat tubular neck, a thick flat rim, and two applied free-form undulating handles. Faint silvery iridescence present throughout. Size: 3.25″ W x 3.5″ H (8.3 cm x 8.9 cm).

Condition: Previous repair to neck, surface wear commensurate with age, and small pock-marked areas of loss on body. Expected interior encrustations present, mineral deposits throughout, and a few stable fissures on body and handles.
