Pre-Columbian, southern Mexico and northern Central America, Mayan Territories, Late Classic period, ca. 550 to 900 CE. A pretty, bright green jadeite amulet, shaped like the head of a chameleon with a tiny drilled perforation forming an eye and string-cut lines giving the appearance of a neck and raised front limbs. A delicate, beautiful piece of work! Size: 0.5″ W (1.3 cm)
Condition: Small loss to one side. Nicely preserved detail.
Provenance: private Stagecoach, Nevada, USA collection; acquired from 1985 to present from galleries such as Arte Primitivo, Art For Eternity, Butterfields, and Riverbend Gallery
