Mayan Double-Handled Terracotta Pot, ex-Arte Primitivo- Lot 520, Auction 9/24/2018

Pre-Columbian, southern Mexico and northern Central America, Mayan Territories, Late Classic period, ca. 550 to 900 CE. A huge, unusually-shaped and well-preserved double-handled pot with a tapered, collared neck and a bulbous body standing on a flat base. The body was once painted dark red with white decoration, which has worn in intriguing ways. Size: 14.5″ W x 12.75″ H (36.8 cm x 32.4 cm)

Condition: Chip from rim and tiny chip from one handle, otherwise intact. Encrusted, calcified deposits on surface with remaining red and white paint.
