Framed Panamanian Textile Mola – Birds in Rainforest- Lot 449, Auction 4/30/2018

Central America, Panama, San Blas Islands, Kuna/Cuna, ca. 1950 CE. A lovely example of this folk art form depicting three tropical birds set amidst stylized rainforest foliage. Kuna women have practiced this textile technique for 125 years, stitching many fabric layers of a wide variety of colors. In this piece, the artist incorporated fabrics of red wine, orange, lime green, olive green, aqua, white, hot pink, royal blue, white, and tan hues with lovely stitching/embroidery techniques. Size: 12.5″ L x 15.75″ W (31.8 cm x 40 cm); framed 16.125″ L x 20.125″ W (41 cm x 51.1 cm)

Condition: Fabric shows expected minor fading and fraying to peripheries.
