Ancient Egypt, New Kingdom to Third Intermediate Period, ca. 1550 to 712 BCE. A fantastic black steatite amulet in the form of a sphinx. Beyond its most famous incarnation at Giza, the sphinx was a guardian figure in ancient Egypt, often lining the tops of tombs or walkways leading to tombs. Size: 1.5″ W (3.8 cm)
Condition: Lucite for display purposes only. Loss to loop on back of sphinx. A hole has been drilled through the lower body for attachment. Light surface scratching and wear. Nicely preserved form.
